A team of four UK specialists, led by Dr. Richard Buell, a professor of intensive care medicine at King's College London, has arrived in Dhaka to assist in the treatment of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, who remains in a critical condition. The team reviewed Zia's condition at Evercare Hospital and held discussions with the local medical team treating her. The international medical effort to save Zia's life has gained momentum, with a Chinese medical team already in Dhaka and another team scheduled to arrive soon. The Bangladesh interim government has also taken steps to enhance security around Zia, declaring her a "very, very important person" and deploying the Special Security Force (SSF) for her protection. Security drills, including test landings by Army and Air Force helicopters, were conducted near the hospital on Thursday, amidst heightened security protocols. The drills were aimed at reassuring the public and preventing any confusion. Zia's condition has been deteriorating since her admission to the hospital on November 23, with complications affecting her heart and lungs. She was placed on ventilation on Sunday night, and her family members have been by her side throughout her treatment. The international community has been extending medical assistance to Zia, with India, China, the US, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan offering their support. Meanwhile, the chiefs of the three armed services visited Zia at the hospital on Tuesday, offering prayers for her recovery. The visit by the UK medical team marks a significant development in Zia's treatment, with hopes that their expertise will help formulate an advanced treatment plan. The BNP, led by her son Tarique Rahman, who is awaiting a new Bangladeshi passport, has been rallying support for Zia's recovery, with special prayers being held across the country.
