Elon Musk's X has introduced a country-of-origin feature, sending shockwaves through both MAGA and Democrat circles online. The feature reveals the true locations of accounts that had been masquerading as US-based, pushing agendas and commenting on US politics. Upon investigating, many of these accounts were found to be operating from outside the US, sparking concerns about their motives and potential foreign influence. The feature, which shows the country where an account is based, has been reintroduced after a brief removal. Users can access it by clicking on the 'date joined' tab on an account's profile. Several high-profile accounts have been exposed, including 'MAGA NATION' with over 392,000 followers, which is based in Eastern Europe, and 'America First' with over 67,000 followers, which is operated from Bangladesh. Not just MAGA supporters are affected; an account claiming to be a 'Proud Democrat' and 'Professional MAGA hunter' is actually based in Kenya, while an anti-Donald Trump page 'Republicans Against Trump' was found to be operating from Austria, using a VPN to mask its location. Other exposed accounts include 'Mariana Times' with over 78,000 followers, which posts pro-Israel content and is based in India. The revelation has sparked a heated online debate, with some calling for accountability and others dismissing it as 'foreign grifters.' Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna and Alexis Wilkins, FBI director Kash Patel's girlfriend, have weighed in, emphasizing the need to identify and counter foreign influence in US politics. As the controversy unfolds, X's country-of-origin feature has shed light on the potential for foreign interference in US online discourse, raising questions about the true nature of these accounts and their motivations.
