US Cracks Down on Immigration: 85,000 Visas Revoked Since January Amid Trump Administration's Tougher Stance
“President Trump and Secretary Rubio adhere to one simple mandate, and they won't stop anytime soon,” the State Department said in a post on X.
The US has revoked a staggering 85,000 visas since January as part of the Trump administration's intensified immigration crackdown. The State Department revealed the figure in a recent social media post on X, warning that stricter immigration rules are here to stay. '85,000 visa revocations since January. We won't stop anytime soon,' the department stated.
According to officials, a significant portion of the revoked visas belonged to students, with over 8,000 cases, more than double the number from the previous year. The reasons for revocation include serious offenses such as DUIs, assaults, and theft, accounting for nearly half of the total revocations.
The Trump administration has also increased scrutiny on certain visa applicants, rejecting those involved in 'censorship or attempted censorship' of protected speech in the US. This move comes as the administration announced last week that it would pause immigration from 19 countries under partial or full travel restrictions.
The State Department's actions are aimed at prioritizing national security and community safety, with officials emphasizing that individuals involved in such activities pose a direct threat to US communities. The administration's tough stance on immigration has sparked ongoing debate and controversy, with critics arguing that it disproportionately targets certain groups.
