A 60-year-old Indian-American woman, Babblejit 'Bubbly' Kaur, has been detained by US immigration authorities for over a week while attending a routine green card interview. Kaur, who has lived in the US for over three decades, was taken into custody by ICE agents on December 1 at a US Citizenship and Immigration Services facility in California. According to her daughter, Joti Kaur, federal agents detained her mother without explanation and transferred her to the Adelanto ICE Processing Center, a former federal prison turned immigration detention facility. The family claims Kaur is being held in a large dorm-style room with dozens of other detainees, where conditions are reportedly inhumane. Kaur, a lawful permanent resident's wife and a pending green card applicant, has no criminal record. Her green card petition had been approved through sponsorship by her US citizen daughter and son-in-law. The family is preparing additional legal filings to allow Kaur to be released on bond while her case proceeds. Congressman Robert Garcia has called for Kaur's release, describing her detention as 'horrific.' A GoFundMe campaign has raised over $26,000 to help cover Kaur's legal fees, commissary expenses, and communication costs. The Department of Homeland Security has not issued a statement on the reasons for Kaur's detention. As of this week, Kaur remains detained at Adelanto, with no timeline provided for a possible hearing or release. The family is seeking support and relief as they navigate this challenging situation.
