In the aftermath of the US military operation in Venezuela, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has outlined a comprehensive three-phase plan to bring stability, recovery, and transition to the crisis-hit country.
According to Rubio, the plan will focus on 'stabilisation,' 'recovery,' and 'transition' for Venezuela. The first phase, dubbed 'stabilisation and quarantine,' aims to stabilize the country's economy and prevent chaos. The US will seize more oil stuck in Venezuela and sell it at market prices, with the proceeds being controlled to benefit the Venezuelan people.
The second phase, 'recovery,' involves opening the Venezuelan oil market to other countries and allowing American, Western, and other companies to access it fairly. Additionally, the US will work with the interim government to begin the transition process, releasing opposition forces from prisons and rebuilding civil society.
The third phase, 'transition,' is expected to focus on holding elections in Venezuela, which have been called for by the opposition. While Rubio did not provide further details on this phase, he expressed confidence in the US's progress and commitment to a positive outcome.
The US operation in Venezuela has sparked tensions with other Latin American countries, following a raid that resulted in the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. The US has since seized oil tankers and announced plans to sell seized oil at market prices, generating revenue for the Venezuelan people.
