Meta is set to lay off around 200 employees in the San Francisco Bay Area, with 124 positions to be eliminated in Burlingame and 74 in Sunnyvale. The layoffs, scheduled for late May, will impact personnel in sales, recruiting, and Reality Labs hardware teams.

Some affected employees may be offered alternative job opportunities within Meta. This move is part of the company's efforts to restructure its workforce and cost framework to align with its long-term ambitions in artificial intelligence.

Meta's decision to lay off 200 employees comes after a similar move in the previous month, where approximately 700 employees were let go. The company aims to transition from traditional priorities to focus on next-generation technologies.

Meta plans to continue recruiting for essential positions, with a projected 6% year-on-year increase in its workforce, which stood at 78,865 as of December 31, 2025.

The company intends to invest $10 billion in establishing a data center in El Paso, Texas, as part of its efforts to transition to machine-driven systems led by artificial intelligence.
