After 21 hours of intense negotiations, the United States and Iran failed to reach a breakthrough in Islamabad, leaving hopes for a nuclear deal shattered.
The US delegation, led by Vice President JD Vance, stated that the talks were 'bad news' for Tehran, while the Iranian delegation maintained that the US made 'unreasonable demands.'
The key issue between the two nations was Iran's nuclear programme, with the US demanding an affirmative commitment that Iran will not seek a nuclear weapon.
Iran, however, stated that it is not pursuing an atomic bomb and that the US is making 'unreasonable demands.'
The talks were part of a two-week ceasefire agreed upon by both nations to boost diplomatic efforts to end the war in the West Asia region.
The US delegation maintained that their demands were 'quite flexible and accommodating,' while the Iranian delegation stated that they negotiated intensively to protect the national interests of the Iranian people.
