British cinematographer George Richmond, known for his work on Hollywood blockbusters, is recovering at a hospital in Chandigarh after a paragliding accident in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district.
Richmond, 54, was among a group of five on a long-distance cross-country flying expedition when he crashed in rugged mountainous terrain near Deo Tibba.
A coordinated search and rescue operation was launched after four paragliders alerted the local administration, and Richmond was rescued by local authorities and the Indian Air Force (IAF).
He was airlifted to Chandigarh where he underwent surgery for his injuries, which included a fracture of the C1 vertebra and a fracture-dislocation at the C5-C6 level, resulting in quadriplegia.
Richmond is currently stable, conscious, and communicating effectively, and is being closely monitored by a multidisciplinary team of doctors and nurses.
