Tim Cook is set to hand over the reins of Apple Inc. to John Ternus, marking a pivotal leadership transition in the tech giant's 50-year history. Ternus will become Apple's next CEO effective September 1, with Cook continuing as CEO for a few months to ensure a smooth transition.

Ternus, currently senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, will join the board of directors on September 1. Cook will take on the role of executive chairman, praising Ternus as 'the right person to lead Apple into the future.'

Ternus has spent nearly 25 years at Apple, working under Steve Jobs and as a mentor to Cook. He has translated Apple's product vision into reality, with notable successes including the MacBook Neo, iPad portfolio, and iPhone 17 Pro phones.

As CEO, Ternus will face the challenge of maintaining Apple's revenue streams, including the Services business, while building new product lines and tackling the company's Artificial Intelligence efforts.
