Marathi actor Mahesh Pawar, 25, died in a horrific road accident after an SUV plunged over 1,000 feet into a gorge in Maharashtra's Raigad district. Eight people, including Pawar, were killed in the accident, which occurred on the Poladpur-Mahabaleshwar road.
The victims, aged 19 to 35, were on a trip from Harne in Dapoli when the accident occurred. The police suspect that the driver lost control of the vehicle in the ghat area, leading to the plunge.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed grief over the deaths and said rescue operations were being carried out on a war footing. Three bodies have been recovered so far, and efforts are underway to retrieve the remaining bodies with the help of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and voluntary rescue teams.
