Director Imtiaz Ali has expressed his excitement about Ranbir Kapoor playing Lord Rama in Ramayana, calling it a 'hugely beneficial' experience for the actor. Ali praised Ranbir's versatility and said the role will allow him to bring a 'certain effect or reality' to the character.

According to Ali, Ranbir is a 'pure actor' who can 'imbibe' from the character, making the role of Lord Rama 'enriching' for him. The teaser of the film, which featured Ranbir in the role, received a mixed response from viewers.

Ranbir will also essay the role of Lord Parshurama in the film, which is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and backed by Yash and Namit Malhotra. The film also stars Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman.

Ali's upcoming film, Main Vaapas Aaunga, is scheduled to release in theatres on June 12 and will clash with Bharat Bhagya Vidhata starring Kangana Ranaut and Governor: The Silent Saviour featuring Manoj Bajpayee.
