Ranveer Singh is set to play a character inspired by Lord Shiva in a grand big-screen adaptation of Amish Tripathi's Shiva trilogy, The Immortals of Meluha. The actor has acquired the rights to the bestselling novel under his production banner, Maa Kasam Film, and partnered with Birla Studios to develop the mythological epic as a grand-scale trilogy.

The project is expected to be a long-term cinematic universe, with the plan to tell the story over three films. The writing work has already begun, and the team is taking its time to crack the screenplay and world-building.

The first part of the trilogy is expected to go on floors in 2028, with a director yet to be chosen. The details of the project are under wraps for now, with the focus entirely on developing the material.

The Shiva Trilogy, which includes The Immortals of Meluha, The Secret of the Nagas, and The Oath of the Vayuputras, has become the fastest-selling book series in Indian publishing history, with 2.5 million copies in print.
