Superstar C Joseph Vijay was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday, delivering a speech that moved Trisha Krishnan to tears. However, his classmate and creator of the Netflix show Decoupled, Manu Joseph, has come forward to criticise his claim of experiencing poverty.

In his first speech as the CM, Vijay remarked that he understood poverty and hunger, but Manu Joseph took to X to dispute this claim, stating that Vijay was his classmate in the third standard at Loyola School.

Manu also pointed out that Vijay's father, SA Chandrasekhar, was a filmmaker who opened doors for him in Kollywood, and that being broke is not the same as experiencing Tamil-grade poverty.

Vijay had stated in his speech that he was the son of an ordinary assistant film director who aspired to succeed in cinema through hard work, and that he would not touch even a single paisa from the people's money.
