As the April 15 filing deadline nears, thousands of Americans may be eligible for significantly higher tax refunds this year due to expanded credits introduced under recent federal changes.

The potential refund boost comes from combining the Adoption Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit, with some households receiving up to $6,700 in total refunds.

The Adoption Tax Credit is available to taxpayers who adopt an eligible child, with qualified expenses including adoption fees, attorney costs, and travel directly related to the adoption process.

Taxpayers with a modified adjusted gross income of $259,190 or less can claim the full credit, which phases out for incomes up to $299,189.

The Child Tax Credit has also been expanded, providing up to $2,200 per child, with a refundable portion offering up to $1,700 per qualifying child.

Taxpayers must ensure they claim both credits correctly when filing their returns to receive the refund.
