A tornado warning was issued for parts of Jasper County in Illinois, with residents in Willow Hill and surrounding areas urged to take cover immediately. The storm warning extends to west-central Crawford County and eastern Jasper County.
The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed a tornado over Newton, Illinois, at 4:12 pm CDT, moving northeast at 35 mph and remaining on the ground until 4:30 pm CDT.
Residents are advised to seek immediate shelter in a basement or interior room on the lowest floor of a substantial building, avoiding windows, as the storm is also expected to impact Ste. Marie, Robinson, Flat Rock, and Palestine.
The NWS has asked that residents go to the nearest substantial shelter and shield themselves from flying debris if they are outside, in a mobile home, or in a car.
