Lucknow: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has urged the courts to conduct hearings in a language that everyone can understand, expressing concern for the Unnao rape survivor who reportedly felt left out due to proceedings in English. In a social media post, Yadav shared an image highlighting the survivor's concern and emphasized the importance of linguistic inclusivity in the pursuit of justice. The Delhi High Court recently suspended the jail term of former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who is serving life imprisonment in the Unnao rape case. However, Sengar will remain in jail as he is also serving a 10-year sentence in the custodial death case of the victim's father. The High Court imposed conditions, including a ₹15 lakh personal bond and restrictions on Sengar's movement within a 5-km radius of the survivor's residence in Delhi. The Unnao rape case drew national attention in 2018 after allegations of sexual assault against Sengar, who was later convicted by a trial court. The survivor and her family have faced harassment and sought protection throughout the trial. Yadav's call for language-neutral court hearings aims to ensure that everyone involved in the case can fully participate and receive justice.
