Lucknow: In a significant development, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has quashed a forgery case against international shooter Vartika Singh, citing a lack of evidence and investigation lapses. The case alleged that she was involved in preparing forged letters at the behest of a Union Cabinet minister. According to the court, the documents shared with Vartika Singh were also provided to officials and other dignitaries for an inquiry, but no investigation was conducted to identify the person behind the fake documents. The court noted that the investigating officer had even filed a closure report after finding no evidence of wrongdoing against Vartika Singh. The case dates back to April 2020, when Vartika Singh was allegedly lured into paying ₹25 lakh to Rajneesh Singh, claiming to be close to the secretary of then Cabinet Minister Smriti Irani. However, Vartika Singh refused to pay, and a case was lodged against her under the Indian Penal Code. Despite her cooperation, a chargesheet was filed against her, and a judicial magistrate issued a process for her trial. Vartika Singh's lawyers argued that she was falsely implicated after refusing to pay the demanded money. The court has now set aside the ongoing criminal proceedings against her, bringing an end to a two-year-long ordeal.
