Assam's efforts to strengthen its border vigilance have yielded results, with 18 foreign nationals being sent back to Bangladesh after being caught for illegal entry. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the move on social media, stating that these individuals had attempted to infiltrate the country with malicious intentions. According to Sarma, the 18 individuals were intercepted by Assam Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) in various districts along the India-Bangladesh border. The districts of Sribhumi, Cachar, Dhubri, and South Salmara-Mankachar share a 267.5-kilometer international border with Bangladesh, with an Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Sutarkandi in Sribhumi. The Assam Police had previously stated that they would take all necessary measures to prevent non-Indian nationals from entering the country from Bangladesh, following last year's political turmoil in the neighboring nation. However, Indian passport holders from Bangladesh are allowed to return to India through the designated entry points in the state. Assam's Chief Minister emphasized that the state is committed to preventing unauthorized entry and promoting development, growth, and security in the region. The move reflects the state's determination to maintain its borders and protect its citizens from potential threats.
