A disruption on Bengaluru's Namma Metro Purple Line during peak evening hours left hundreds of commuters stranded, with videos showing people climbing onto lorries and trucks to get home amid a shortage of alternative transport options.
BJP MP Tejasvi Surya slammed the Congress government, saying metro disruptions had become 'alarmingly frequent' and that every breakdown throws the city's transport network into disarray.
Sharing a video of stranded commuters hitchhiking on lorries, Surya wrote, 'First-world tech talent. Third-world governance. That is the story of Bengaluru.'
The disruption was caused by a technical snag in a train at Cubbon Park Metro Station during peak commuting hours, leading to heavy crowding at several stations.
Normal services on the Purple Line have since resumed, but the incident has exposed shortcomings in the city's urban mobility planning, according to Bengaluru Central MP PC Mohan.
