Bihar Floods Impose Havoc: 15 Lakh Affected, 10 Dead, and Counting

A disastrous flood has swept through 11 districts of Bihar, nearly over 15 lakh people affected and at least 10 dead. Darbhanga district is the worst-hit, with 5.36 lakh people displaced or trapped in their homes.

The Bihar disaster management department reported that 131 panchayats across 12 blocks in Darbhanga have been severely affected. Other affected districts include Muzaffarpur, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Supaul, Kishanganj, Gopalganj, West Champaran, Khagaria, and Saran.

Rescue efforts are underway, with 17 NDRF teams and 8 SDRF teams evacuating over 1.36 lakh people from marooned areas. Relief camps have been set up, providing shelter to 14,011 people. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of Bihar have visited the affected area along with Indian Air Force helicopters to airdropped food packets containing essential supplies to flood-hit areas. Community kitchens are feeding around 1.77 lakh people. The flood has disrupted rail services, with several trains diverted or short-terminated.

Bihar Water Resources Minister Sanjay Kumar Jha conducted an aerial survey of the affected areas and found out that the situation remains horrible, with multiple rivers flowing above danger levels. The situation in Bihar is still out of control many people are still stuck in their flooded homes and the Indian Air Force and National Disaster Response Force are in an active action to save the people of the affected area and the levels are also slowly going down.

The Bihar floods serve as a reminder of the importance of disaster preparedness, infrastructure development, and community resilience.
