The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is quietly implementing a generational shift, with the appointment of 45-year-old Nitin Nabin as working president sparking speculation about a major organisational overhaul. Insiders say the party is planning to bring in a younger team of office bearers, with at least 100 leaders aged 35-50 being groomed for key roles. The party's leadership has been shifting towards younger faces since 2014. In recent years, they have picked leaders in their 40s and 50s for key positions, including ministers in states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh. In Bihar, deputy chief ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha are 56 and 57 years old, respectively, while in Chhattisgarh, deputy chief ministers Arun Sao and Vijay Sharma are 57 and 52 years old, respectively. Referring to the upcoming organisational rejig, a senior party leader said that the party is focusing on grooming new leaders who will lead the party for the next decade and more. This move is part of the party's long-standing focus on generational change. In 2014, BJP patriarchs Atal Bihari Vajpayee, LK Advani, and Murli Manohar Joshi were not included in the party's parliamentary board and central election committee. The party is now looking ahead to the next two decades, with Nitin Nabin's appointment being seen as a step towards a younger leadership team. Once he is elected as president, he will take over from JP Nadda, who was appointed as working president in 2019 and national president in January 2020. The party's new team of office bearers is expected to be announced after the new president is formally appointed after January 15.
