The Congress has emerged victorious in the Karnataka Legislative Council elections, winning five out of seven seats. The party's victory was made possible by cross-voting by at least six BJP lawmakers and four to eight JD(S) lawmakers.

The BJP has vowed to take strong action against its lawmakers who cross-voted, with Karnataka BJP chief BY Vijayendra saying 'there is no question of forgiving the MLAs in our party who have cross-voted. They will not be forgiven.'

The incident has exposed cracks within the NDA leadership in Karnataka, with at least 11 legislators of the alliance cross-voting. The Congress has increased its strength in the legislative council from 34 to 39, while the BJP now has 29 members.
