Delhi Assembly Tries Unconventional Method to Deter Mischievous Monkeys

The Delhi Assembly is taking a unique approach to tackle the persistent issue of monkeys entering its premises. In an effort to scare them away without causing harm, officials plan to hire trained individuals who can mimic the sounds of langurs, a method deemed effective and humane. These 'langur impersonators' will be accompanied by a real langur to amplify the effect. The Public Works Department has issued a tender to deploy trained personnel on working days and Saturdays, with a focus on safety and discipline. This move comes after previous attempts, including langur cutouts, failed to deter the monkeys. The goal is to create a safe environment for legislators, staff, and visitors, while also minimizing disruptions. A similar incident occurred in 2017 when a monkey entered the House, interrupting a discussion on guest teachers in government schools. The new initiative aims to prevent such incidents by employing a novel and non-violent approach.
