The Indian government has issued a stern warning to social media platform X, owned by Elon Musk, to immediately remove and disable 'obscene, nude, indecent, and sexually explicit content' that's been misused on the platform. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) cited the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the IT Rules, 2021 as the basis for the order. A specific concern has been raised about the service 'Grok AI', developed by X and integrated into its platform, which is being used to create fake accounts that host and share explicit content targeting women. The government has directed X to take action against offending users, accounts, and content. The move comes after repeated complaints, including from Rajya Sabha member Priyanka Chaturvedi, who raised concerns about the increasing misuse of the AI app Grok. The government has given X 72 hours to submit a detailed report on the actions taken to address the issue. This development highlights the government's efforts to regulate social media platforms and ensure compliance with laws related to decency and obscenity.
