Kerala, along with Assam and Puducherry, held its state assembly elections on April 9. The voter turnout in Kerala reached 78.12 per cent as of 8pm, with 2.71 crore voters casting their votes to elect their next representatives in the 140-seat state legislative assembly.
The polls were a tight three-way contest between the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF), Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) alliance, and BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Kozhikode district recorded the highest polling percentage at 81.02 per cent, followed by Palakkad with 80.47 per cent, while Pathanamthitta had the lowest at 70.75 per cent.
Kerala chief electoral officer (CEO) Rathan U Kelkar expressed confidence that the state would see a 90 per cent voter turnout, surpassing previous elections.
The voter turnout for the 2026 assembly elections has crossed that of previous elections, with the overall turnout expected to rise further.
