The Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) is set to announce its stand on the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance on Saturday.
The decision comes after a meeting of the party's executive committee, where several issues were discussed, including the possibility of exiting the alliance due to recent tensions between the DMK and MDMK.
MDMK chief Vaiko is expected to make a formal announcement after the general council meeting on Saturday morning.
The tensions between the DMK and MDMK emerged after Vaiko's son, Durai Vaiko, commented that it was 'unfortunate' that MDMK MLAs contested under the DMK's symbol, as they could not support the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
Vaiko had previously expressed concerns about being given only four seats in the assembly elections, while other alliance partners received more seats.
