In a rare incident, two passenger jets - an Air India and an IndiGo aircraft - clipped wings while taxiing at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 pm when the Air India plane, operating as flight AI 2732, was taxiing for departure to Coimbatore, and the IndiGo plane, operating as flight 6E 791, was taxiing after landing from Hyderabad. Both airlines have confirmed that their planes made contact, resulting in minor damage to the wingtips. The Air India spokesperson stated that the incident occurred while the plane was waiting on the taxiway prior to take-off, and the IndiGo spokesperson confirmed that the contact occurred while their plane was taxiing toward a parking gate after landing. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India's aviation regulator, is investigating the incident. As a precautionary measure, both planes have been grounded for technical checks. All passengers were safely disembarked, and alternative arrangements are being made to fly them to their destination as soon as possible. The incident highlights the importance of safety protocols and the swift response of the airlines and regulatory authorities in such situations. The DGCA has confirmed that the incident is being thoroughly investigated to determine the cause of the collision.
