SCO summit 2024: Jaishankar to represent India in Islamabad

External Affairs Minister S.Jaishankar is going to represent India at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit on 15th and 16th of October 2024 in Islamabad, Pakistan. After 9 years, this marks a significant visit as for the first time the External Affairs Minister is going to travel to Pakistan after Sushma Swaraj visited in 2015.

This will be a solo visit by the External Affairs Minister S.Jaishankar. The main objective of the visit is for attending the SCO summit, and the Ministry of External Affairs has emphasized that it should not be seen as a sign of improved bilateral ties between India and Pakistan. This visit comes shortly after Jaishankar's strong statement at the United Nations General Assembly, where he criticized Pakistan for its role in cross-border terrorism.

In related news, India has expressed disappointment and condemnation over Pakistan's warm welcome to Zakir Naik, a transient from Indian justice. The Indian government has made it clear that it's not surprised by Pakistan's actions, but finds them disconcerting and unacceptable.
