A devastating fire broke out in two air-conditioned bogies of the Tata Nagar–Ernakulam Express early Monday morning in Andhra Pradesh's Anakapalli district, leaving one passenger dead and many others shaken. According to police, the 70-year-old victim, Chandrasekhar Sundar, was trapped in one of the affected coaches and succumbed to severe burns. The incident occurred around 1:30 am as the train was traveling from Tatanagar to Ernakulam via Visakhapatnam district. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with passengers panicking and rushing out of the train as thick smoke filled the coaches. The fire spread rapidly, engulfing and gutting the two AC coaches before fire services arrived. Railway officials confirmed that all passengers are safe, but many lost their belongings in the fire. The train was delayed by nearly four hours, with rail traffic on the Visakhapatnam–Vijayawada route temporarily suspended due to the incident. A detailed inquiry has been ordered to determine the cause of the fire and identify any safety lapses. Firefighting teams from nearby stations worked tirelessly to bring the blaze under control, and passengers were eventually shifted to other coaches to continue their journey. The incident has raised concerns about passenger safety, and railway officials are working to restore normal operations. Several trains were delayed due to the incident, with passengers forced to wait at stations for hours. As the investigation continues, the railway authorities are committed to ensuring the safety of passengers and taking necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
