The Trinamool Congress (TMC) and a rebel faction have written to the Kolkata police seeking permission to hold a Shahid Dibas rally on July 21.

The rally, held annually to commemorate the 13 youth Congress workers killed in police firing in 1993, is a significant event in the TMC's calendar.

TMC leaders have vowed to hold the event regardless of administrative restrictions, with plans to use alternative arrangements if necessary.

The rebel faction, led by expelled TMC leader Ritabrata Banerjee, has also announced its intentions to participate in the event, with a focus on giving due respect to the families of the victims.
