Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: In a strong rebuke to the Leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath asserted that no deaths have been reported due to fake medicines or codeine syrup in the state. However, he did acknowledge that evidence has emerged linking the accused in the codeine cough syrup case to the Samajwadi Party. The Chief Minister stated that cases related to the illegal diversion of the syrup are being pursued under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and the state government has successfully defended its stand in court. He also revealed that the largest wholesaler involved in the case was issued a license during the previous SP government. Adityanath alleged that the accused, including Alok Sipahi, a confirmed SP worker, and Amit Yadav, who was associated with the party's youth wing, have links with the party. He also claimed that the kingpin of the case, Shubham Jaiswal, had connections with the SP and was Amit Yadav's business partner. The Chief Minister assured the House that no offender would be spared and that the government has taken strict action against the accused. He said that 79 cases have been registered, 225 people have been named, and 78 accused have been arrested. Raids have been conducted at 134 firms, and transactions linked to the racket are under investigation. Adityanath warned that if action is taken against accused linked to the SP, its leaders would be the first to offer condolences, as they are aware of the strict action taken by his government. He also stated that the FSDA department has tested over 1,000 cough syrup samples in the state and has taken action against those found guilty.
