Representatives of various political parties in West Bengal met the Election Commission of India (ECI) in Kolkata, seeking a maximum of two-phase polling for the upcoming assembly elections.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the poll body of threatening state officials, while an ECI official dismissed the charge.
The CEC assured the parties that the ECI will ensure an impartial, transparent, and fair poll in West Bengal, with a zero-tolerance policy against any attempt to disrupt the electoral process.
Political parties, including the TMC, BJP, CPI(M), Congress, AAP, and others, urged the ECI to provide protection to each voter and deploy CAPF in large numbers to curb violence during elections.
