LONDON - In a devastating loss for the equestrian community, Valegro and Uthopia, two iconic British dressage horses, have been laid to rest. Valegro, a 23-year-old champion often referred to as the 'dancing horse,' won three Olympic gold medals with rider Charlotte Dujardin in 2012 and 2016. His stablemate and fellow Olympic champion, Uthopia, who was 24, shared a lifelong bond with Valegro. Their trainer, Carl Hester, who won team gold with Uthopia at the 2012 London Olympics, paid tribute to the duo, saying, 'Their entire lives were a testament to their unbreakable bond and companionship.' Both horses enjoyed a pampered retirement at Hester's yard in rural England. Charlotte Dujardin, who is still mourning the loss, shared a heartfelt tribute to Valegro, saying, 'You have been my constant, my rock. Through the highest highs and the lowest lows, your gentle presence, your steady heartbeat, the silent moments we shared together have been my everything.' Valegro's incredible partnership with Dujardin earned him the nickname 'the Muhammad Ali of dressage,' a once-in-a-lifetime horse who captured the hearts of a nation at the home Games.
