Indian chess prodigy D Gukesh has slipped to the 10th spot in the latest FIDE rankings, following his early exit from the Chess World Cup in Goa. This setback marks a return to inconsistency for Gukesh, who briefly held the 9th spot last month. Meanwhile, Arjun Erigaisi has regained the top spot among Indians after a strong performance in the same tournament, where he gained 6.4 Elo rating points. The updated FIDE rankings now feature only five Indians in the top-30, with Viswanathan Anand at 12th place and R Praggnanandhaa at 7th. Vidit Gujrathi ranks 29th. Gukesh's coach, Grzegorz Gajewski, attributes the young player's performance to a transitional period following his historic world championship win. Gajewski notes that Gukesh faces intense competition and must adapt to new objectives and motivation strategies. In a positive sign, Gajewski believes that Gukesh is regaining his form, citing the European Clubs Cup as a promising start. As the chess world continues to evolve, Gukesh will need to navigate the challenges of maintaining his position among the world's top players.
