Japanese golfer Hideki Matsuyama capped off his 2025 season with a thrilling victory at the $5 million Hero World Challenge, his third title in Tiger Woods-hosted tournaments. The 33-year-old superstar edged out Sweden's Alex Noren in a playoff, sinking a crucial approach shot to two feet on the first playoff hole. Matsuyama's win was fueled by a sublime final round of eight-under par 64, during which he was driven by two key thoughts. Firstly, Woods had told him he'd likely win if he shot a 10-under in the final round. Secondly, Matsuyama longed to take a selfie with Woods, a feat he achieved after winning the Genesis Invitational at Riviera earlier this year. The victory marked a fitting end to Matsuyama's 2025 season, which began with a win at the Sentry Tournament of Champions. Just when Austria's Sepp Straka seemed poised to take the lead, Matsuyama staged a remarkable comeback, holing a 116-yard eagle shot on the par-4 10th hole to tie Straka. Although Matsuyama failed to convert several birdie chances on the final holes, he remained focused on the playoff, where he sank his approach shot to seal the win. The usually stoic Matsuyama was seen sporting a mischievous grin throughout the tournament, and even photobombed a young fan trying to take a picture with his caddie, Shota Hayofuji. Matsuyama's win has given him a much-needed confidence boost heading into 2026. Despite struggling with his form in the majors this year, the Japanese golfer has vowed to work on his swing and return stronger next season. With his two wins in 2025, Matsuyama has solidified his position as the most successful Asian player in the history of the PGA Tour. The final leaderboard saw Matsuyama and Noren tied at 22-under par, with Straka and world No.1 Scottie Scheffler finishing third and tied fourth at 21- and 20-under, respectively. JJ Spaun, the reigning US Open champion, rounded out the top four with a 65.
