NASCAR has indefinitely suspended a team member, Evanna Howell, following a disturbing incident at Charlotte Motor Speedway. According to court records, Howell, 35, was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury.
The incident occurred on May 23, when a 77-year-old man was allegedly hit by a golf cart and suffered a severe laceration. Authorities have not disclosed the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Howell, a senior account manager at 23XI Racing, was released on a $125,000 bond and is scheduled to return to court on June 16.
Before joining 23XI Racing in 2021, Howell built a strong career across sports and entertainment, working for organizations such as the Charlotte Hornets and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
