Mississippi athletic director Keith Carter and several players from the football team have disputed coach Lane Kiffin's account of his departure for LSU. Carter appeared on a Mississippi talk show, saying that Kiffin's portrayal of events was 'not totally accurate.' Kiffin had claimed he was denied permission to coach the Rebels through the College Football Playoff, despite the players wanting him to stay. However, Carter said that Kiffin had been informed weeks ago that he would not coach in the playoff if he left the university. The players have also come forward to contradict Kiffin's claims, with offensive lineman Brycen Sanders saying that the notion of the team begging him to stay is an 'overstatement.' Linebacker Suntarine Perkins added that Kiffin's social media post did not match what he said in a meeting with players. Meanwhile, the Mississippi Highway Patrol has confirmed that they escorted Kiffin to the airport without incident, after he claimed a fan tried to run him off the road. The state's top public safety officer, Sean Tindell, even poked fun at Kiffin's claim with a satirical video on social media, saying that there was no incident involving the highway patrol. The Rebels are now set to be coached by defensive coordinator Pete Golding, after finishing the regular season 11-1.
