US President Donald Trump has asked the Justice Department and FBI to investigate links between late financier Jeffrey Epstein and former President Bill Clinton, as well as Epstein's ties to banking giant JPMorgan Chase and former Harvard President Larry Summers. This move comes after a new batch of emails was released, revealing Epstein's alleged connections to powerful figures. Trump, under mounting pressure, has also requested an investigation into JPMorgan Chase and Summers, who served as Clinton's treasury secretary. The Republican President accused Democrats of pushing the "Epstein hoax," but questions about his own friendship with Epstein continue to dog him. Emails released this week suggest Trump spent hours with one of Epstein's victims at his house, prompting Trump to deny all wrongdoing. Trump has long been under scrutiny for his friendship with Epstein, which dates back to the 1980s. Epstein died in prison in 2019, but his alleged sex trafficking ring continues to raise questions. The FBI and Justice Department have previously stated that they had not uncovered evidence to justify an investigation into uncharged third parties. However, Attorney General Pam Bondi has pledged to pursue the investigation with urgency and integrity, naming senior New York prosecutor Jay Clayton to lead the probe. Despite Trump's demands, JPMorgan Chase has rejected his claims, stating that the government had damning information about Epstein's crimes but failed to share it with the bank. The bank also expressed regret for its association with Epstein. The scandal has overshadowed Trump's recent victory lap, and his efforts to put a lid on the controversy have repeatedly failed. The US House of Representatives is set to vote on demanding the release of files related to Epstein, which Trump has urged lawmakers not to pursue, stating that he has a country to run.
