US President Donald Trump made a series of phone calls to Thailand and Cambodia on Friday, aiming to revitalize a peace deal he helped broker in October. The deal, which was signed during Trump's Asian tour, had been put on hold after a landmine blast in Thailand. The latest clashes between the two nations resulted in the reported death of a civilian, according to Phnom Penh. This is not the first time the two countries have clashed, with a five-day conflict in July causing 43 fatalities and displacing over 300,000 people. The dispute dates back more than a century, with the recent fighting triggered by Thailand's claims that Cambodia planted landmines injuring its troops. Malaysia has been acting as a mediator in the conflict, and Trump also spoke with the country's leaders to help bring an end to the violence. The White House has stated that Trump's goal is to mediate the current conflict and restore peace to the region.
