The box office turnaround of Main Vaapas Aaunga has reaffirmed the audience's power in propping up a film. Director Imtiaz Ali has hailed the audience's role and said the industry needs to learn from them about making and marketing films.

Main Vaapas Aaunga, a romance drama set around Partition, earned ₹5 crore net in its opening weekend but increased to ₹12 crore for the second weekend, with a 130% jump on its second Saturday.

Imtiaz has been visiting theatres in Delhi and Mumbai, interacting with the audience and taking feedback. He believes the audience is supreme and should be the guide for making and marketing films.

Main Vaapas Aaunga has been praised by critics but initially found few takers, earning ₹1.15 crore net domestically on its opening day. However, positive word-of-mouth increased its earnings to ₹5.75 crore net by its 10th day, crossing ₹30 crore in just over 12 days.
