Imtiaz Ali's Main Vaapas Aaunga has seen a resurgence at the box office, thanks to word-of-mouth and audience push. The film, starring Naseeruddin Shah, Diljit Dosanjh, Sharvari, and Vedang Raina, tells a love story and the ordeal of people in Punjab during Partition. When asked if the film should be made tax-free in Punjab, Ali said, "If people feel that this is a story of Punjab, India, and Bengal, then there must be a process to see if the film can be made tax-free." He added that the team would look into it.
Main Vaapas Aaunga focuses on the story of Keenu, played by Vedang Raina, and tells it from his single point of view. Ali revealed that this was his original vision, and he wanted to make the film from a narrow point of view of this one romantic person. The film boasts an ensemble cast, but Ali is particularly praising Diljit Dosanjh's performance, saying that his honesty was essential to making the film true.
Ali shared an incident where Dosanjh acted as a catalyst for one of the most hard-hitting points in the film. He thanked Dosanjh and lyricist Irshad Kamil for encouraging him to make the last video of Kya Kamaal Hai, which he had never done or seen before.
