Asha Bhosle, the versatile playback singer who redefined the genre, has died at the age of 92. She was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday evening due to a chest infection and exhaustion. Bhosle, who sang over 12,000 songs, was a household name in India and beyond, with hits like 'Aaja, Aaja' and 'Chain Se Ham Ko Kabhi'. She was the voice behind many leading ladies, including Meena Kumari, Madhubala, and Kajol, and was equally accomplished in ghazals, partnering with O P Nayyar and R D Burman. Bhosle won multiple awards, including the Dadasaheb Phalke and Padma Vibhushan, and was a successful entrepreneur, running restaurants in Dubai and the UK. She performed at a special concert in Dubai to celebrate her 90th birthday in 2023.
