Malayalam superstar Mohanlal's latest release, Vrusshabha, has got off to a disastrous start at the domestic box office. Despite a massive ₹70 crore budget, the ambitious project has collected a mere ₹1.04 crore in India after three days, with ₹24 lakh earned on Saturday alone. The film's overseas collections are equally dismal, with just ₹20 lakh earned globally. The numbers are a far cry from Mohanlal's previous success, L2: Empuraan, which opened to a record-breaking ₹65 crore gross worldwide on its debut day. Vrusshabha, written and directed by Nanda Kishore, stars Mohanlal in a dual role, spanning two timelines, and also features Samarjit Lankesh, Nayan Sarika, Ragini Dwivedi, Ajay, and Neha Saxena. The film's poor performance is likely due to negative reviews from critics, which may have deterred audiences from watching it. With most theatres expected to replace Vrusshabha with other releases after the weekend, the film may struggle to reach even ₹5 crore net domestically. If this trend continues, Vrusshabha is expected to suffer losses of over 90%, a career worst for Mohanlal. Vrusshabha was released on December 25 in Malayalam, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada, but the dubbed versions have also failed to impress, earning just ₹34 lakh in three days. The film's disappointing box office performance has raised concerns about Mohanlal's next project, and fans are eagerly waiting to see how he will bounce back from this setback.
