Actor Rajinikanth addressed the press at an event for his upcoming film, Dharman, alongside Kamal Haasan and Ashwath Marimuthu. He expressed his frustration with being criticized for speaking or staying silent, stating that whatever he says has become an issue. He also reflected on his decades of experience in the public eye, saying that people who don't like him will not like him, no matter what he does.

Rajinikanth was responding to the backlash following his press meet in May to discuss the Tamil Nadu chief minister and actor Vijay. He had stated that he congratulated Vijay after the elections and wished him on his birthday, but his statement seemed to have the opposite effect. Rajinikanth hit back at trolls, saying that people criticize him regardless of what he does, and that he has learned to be careful.
