Thalaivar 173, starring Rajinikanth and produced by Kamal Haasan, has locked its director and title. Ashwath Marimuthu is directing Dharman, which was born on a flight 40 years ago. Kamal Haasan revealed that it has been 40 years since he and Rajinikanth decided to work together.
Kamal spoke about their 50-year friendship, noting that Rajinikanth began with supporting roles, but they became equal stars in less than three years. Ashwath compared Dharman to Rajinikanth's classic hits, saying it's a mix of Padayappa and Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu.
Before Ashwath's film was finalised, multiple directors were approached, including KS Ravikumar, Sundar C, and Cibi Chakravarthi. Kamal and Rajinikanth will also reunite for Nelson Dilipkumar's yet-to-be-titled film, tentatively titled KH X RK Reunion.
