Shwetha Menon has broken her silence on her sudden resignation as president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). In a strongly worded post on Instagram, she stated that she stepped down out of self-respect, not weakness. She claimed that she refused to be a puppet to anyone and was subjected to misinformation and fabricated allegations before and after her election as president.
Shwetha also called for a forensic audit to investigate the wrongdoings of previous committee members and ensure transparency and accountability. She rejected speculation about her resignation, stating that she was neither aligned with the BJP nor the Left and maintained that her stance was independent.
The controversy surrounding Shwetha's resignation comes amid a broader debate about AMMA's funding choices, including a sponsorship deal with a temple trust that sparked a backlash in May. Shwetha had defended the organisation's sponsorship choices, stating that AMMA operates as a charitable entity and should not reject financial support based on political or religious backgrounds.
