Vikrant Massey recently spoke about his exit from the popular web show Mirzapur, stating that he wishes his character wasn't killed off. The actor appeared in the first season of the show and was replaced by Jitendra Kumar in the upcoming film adaptation. Massey reflected on the show's predominantly male cast and crew, stating that they 'indulged in patriarchy and male ego.'
Massey played the role of Bablu Pandit, the on-screen brother of Ali Fazal's character, in the series. His character's death in the first season triggered a rivalry between Guddu Pandit and Munna Bhaiya. The show gained massive popularity after its release in 2018 and has since had three successful seasons.
Mirzapur: The Movie is set for a theatrical release on September 4, 2026, and features several beloved characters reprising their roles. However, Massey's character is being played by Jitendra Kumar in the film.
Massey's comments come as the show is adapted for the big screen, with a predominantly male cast and crew. The film is directed by Gurmeet Singh, written by Puneet Krishna, and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under the banner of Excel Entertainment.
