Julie Murray, sister of missing Maura Murray, understands the pain of the Guthrie family after Nancy's disappearance. She said that the moment families fear the most is when urgency begins to fade, and the fight for answers becomes harder.
Murray explained that while cases initially get a lot of attention, resources, media coverage, and public engagement, the momentum can eventually fade, leaving families to carry the burden alone.
'Most families have to fight to be heard and beg for that level of attention,' she said. 'And some families don’t get any at all.'
Murray also emphasized that media pressure can be lifesaving and generate a lot of tips, but not all of them are actionable.
She described the experience as 'the hope roller coaster,' where families receive tips even years after their loved one disappeared, but none of them lead to answers.
The most difficult turning point comes when investigators exhaust immediate leads, leaving families to push for answers through media coverage, public pressure, and independent efforts.
