A French navy officer's workout data on the Strava app exposed the location of the Charles-de-Gaulle aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean sea, raising concerns about digital security.

The officer, who was jogging on the carrier's deck, had not updated his privacy settings, making his workout data visible to everyone.

Le Monde, a French news outlet, was able to track the carrier's location, sparking questions about why the Iranians couldn't do the same.

The Middle East is currently witnessing commercial ships, energy hubs, and civilian infrastructure being targeted, making the lapse a major and embarrassing one for France.

The Strava app logs latitude and longitude points continuously, plotting them onto a map to show the user's path, storing time, speed, elevation, and distance alongside the route.

The officer's account was public, allowing anyone to view his route, and the Heatmap feature on Strava likely provided the details of the French carrier.

The officer is likely to face disciplinary action, with France having banned such apps and dealt with similar breaches linked to Strava in the past.
