Vice President C P Radhakrishnan met Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in Colombo and held discussions on initiatives including the Indian housing project and Cyclone Ditwah aid.
The visit is the first by an Indian vice president to Sri Lanka and emphasizes India's 'Neighbourhood First' policy and developmental bilateral cooperation.
Radhakrishnan laid emphasis on further deepening India–Sri Lanka ties, rooted in shared history and strong people-to-people linkages.
The two sides discussed addressing fishermen issues in a humanitarian manner, considering the livelihoods of fishing communities on both sides.
The visit is expected to further strengthen the millennia-old civilisational and people-to-people ties between India and Sri Lanka.
